I’ve been living with Chronic Fatigue for 10+ years now. The truth is, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t feel tired. As I got older, I became more and more exhausted until I couldn’t cope with my every day life anymore.
This isn’t the kind of tired where you haven’t had enough sleep. It’s the kind where you feel tired right down to your bones (and your soul).
In the last 10 years I’ve learnt so many interesting things about Chronic Fatigue.
I’ve had blood tests and taken supplements, vitamins & Chinese medicine. I’ve had appointments with GP’s, naturopaths, homeopaths, chiropractors, osteopaths, massage therapists of every kind, kinesiologists, reiki therapists, energetic healers and life coaches. I’ve had hypnotherapy, crystal light healing and acupuncture. It feels like I’ve tried everything under the damn sun. All of these things have contributed to my healing in some way, shape or form.
From all these experiences and practitioners, here is what I’ve learnt.
1 – Chronic Fatigue is a sign that your life is out of whack with who you are as a person. Your values and your true nature don’t match the way you’re living your life.
2 – There is no one magical cure for Chronic Fatigue despite what some therapists will tell you.
3 – The only way to heal from Chronic Fatigue is with a holistic approach. Your physical, mental, emotional and soul health are all equally important.
4 – Doctors aren’t always right. The GP I’d seen since I was a child told me that what I was feeling was in my head and wanted to put me on anti-depressants. I said no thank you and found another doctor.
5 – Lots of people who have Chronic Fatigue are Highly Sensitive People or Empaths. Not knowing how to manage this part of you can be a contributor to Chronic Fatigue.
6 – The best thing that you can do for your healing (for any condition or disease) is put yourself first. When I put everyone else’s needs before mine I got sicker and I was not much value to anybody.
7 – Learning what depletes and replenishes your energy is super important. This looks different for everyone.
8 – ‘No’ is a complete sentence and learning to say no is one of the best things you can do for your healing.
9 – Be curious about where your energy is going. I didn’t realise how much my mental load and emotions impacted my energy levels.
