Do you often feel like you’re more sensitive than others around you? As humans we’re sensitive by nature, but some of us are Highly Sensitive People, or HSP’s.
I’m a HSP and an Empath, but I’ve only known this for the last few years. Before that, I was very confused! I couldn’t understand why things seemed to effect me more than others. My heightened sensitivity used to consume me and I’d often feel overwhelmed by it, but now I’ve learnt how to harness this part of me and use it to help others.
So how do you know if you’re a HSP? Here are some common traits of this personality type
:: Easily overwhelmed by noise or bright lights
:: Avoid violent movies or tv
:: Feel and process things on a deep level
:: Often react emotionally
:: Easily overwhelmed in general
:: More prone to anxiety or depression
:: Polite with great manners
:: Cry easily
:: Take time making decisions
:: Deeply moved by and appreciate art, tastes & scents
:: Avoid overwhelming situations
:: The most obvious one: People often comment on how sensitive you are or that you take things very personally
Of course, there is darkness and lightness to each of these traits. I’ve seen first hand how Highly Sensitive People have the ability to tune into other people and have deep connection. It’s all about your awareness and learning to manage it.
So tell me, are you a HSP and do you tap into it or block it out? xo
